Famous Indian Radio Personality – Ameen Sayani 

Recognized for its golden voice, Ameen Sayani is one of the most popular radio announcers in India. Widely known all across the subcontinent for his captivating voice, he rose to fame with his skills and swept away the entire South Asian Continent.

Ameen Sayani’s Debut

Ameen started his radio career with the presentation in the name of Binaca Geetmala program. It was aired on Radio Ceylon. Since then, he never looked back and is known as one of the mostimitated and respected announcers of Indian radio, even in the present times.

Undoubtedly, Ameen Sayani enjoyed iconic status when millions of listeners respected his golden voice. In fact, it is due to him, Radio Ceylon in India became popularized. His impact was so powerful that the Indian radio reigned supreme during the 1950s and 1960s. He was not only famous for his inimitable voice but his appearance in movies such as Bhoot Bangla, Qatl,Boxer, and Teen Devian made his further popular.

Life History

Born in 1932, Ameen was fortunate to take birth in a patriotic family. He was lucky as he got entered into the prominent schools, New Era in Bombay and Scindia School in Gwalior. He graduated from St. Xavier`s College, Bombay. During his early years of career, he helped his mother Kulsum Sayani in editing the journal “Rahber”, which polished his language and gave him enough skills to posses great oratory skills.

Ameen’s Brother

Since Ameen’s brother, Hamid was a distinguished broadcaster in English, it provided enough support to him. As his brother was well adept with the acting and direction, writing, compering,he provided enough support to his brother, Ameen. His association with All-India Radio for almost a decade gave him enough footing in the field.

It was in the later years, when Ameen opted for the Indian agency of the Commercial Service of Radio Ceylon. It was here he shifted from English to Hindustani medium. His participation in radio shows and commercials for All-India Radio, which began on “Vividh Bharati” network gave him enough prominence among the masses.

Ameen proved his mantle in “Binaca Geetmala”, rendered him enough popularity. In the later stages, it was known as “Colgate Cibaca Geetmala”, until August 2003.

Active Social Life

As Ameen stayed active throughout his career, his association with various organisations and committees provided him enough support. It was him who founded the Advertising Standards Council Of India. He served its Chairman from 1989 to 1990.

He has been accredited with prestigious awards such as Living Legend Award from Federation OF Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2003, Kaan Hall Of Fame Award from Radio Mirchi, Golden Abby by Advertising Club, Bombay in 2000, Hall Of Fame Award from Indian Academy Of Advertising Film Art (IAAFA) in 1993, Person Of The Year Award (1992) Limca Book Of Records, and Gold Medal from Indian Society Of Advertisers (ISA) presented by Mr. K.R. Narayanan, the then Vice-President of India in 1991.

Always imagine releasing of your breath on a steady, constant stream. Even when you are speaking, the stream of breath continues on a steady level. Always be gentle on thinking and connecting from one word to another.

Always avoid a sudden inhaling and exhaling of breath even using the words. If you do not use your breath properly, you lose a great deal of breath. Too frequent and shallow breath always harms your speech.
